Why You Should Stop Ignoring Your Team’s Star Players?

Your top performing employees may appear to be the calmest members of your team. They may seem to be the less demanding when it comes to compliments and rewards. You may have known them for years now and have formed a strong bond with them. However, this does not mean that you need to stop showing your appreciation with the work that they accomplish.
Old or new team members, team building Sydney activities will teach you how they should be valued. Most of the times, your ace player decides to leave the team because of the feeling that his or her contributions to the team are no longer required. This feeling of exclusion stems from the lack of motivation exhibited by the team leader. And the last option that they come up with will be to look for a new team or company that will value them more.
How to value them?
Neglect come in all forms of not showing interest to your team member’s professional accomplishments. More often than not, managers and team leaders only approach their long-time members if they need to correct some errors that the members have created. Spending more time with the low-performers so that they can improve and boost their productivity is also a vital part of getting your team to perform but you also need to keep in mind that your top performers also needs your guidance for them to continue their success.
Avoid selective attention. Do not focus on a particular team member. Treat them fairly; give compliments and credits where it is due. A simple greeting to your team everyday they come to work is important.
Foster collaboration. Instead of you focusing on a low performer team member, you can actually allow your star player to collaborate with the other member so that they will be able to learn from each other. This collaboration will foster sharing of ideas and cooperation that will allow your top player to understand the responsibility of being a leader.
Give them a tap on the back for a job well done. Celebrating their accomplishments is a great reward and fulfillment. Your top employee may not show it but they always long for the appreciation that the company expresses towards them.
Do not wait for your members to voice out their discontentment. As a leader or a manager it is a part of your responsibility to ensure that your team has a pleasant relationship with everyone at the workplace. Bringing a team together requires a lot of effort and creating functional relationships within the team requires valuing each member no matter how small their roles are. Treating your team members fairly involves a conscious effort. If you want to be an impartial leader, start with how you treat your members.
