Purposeful team building, Cambodia bike handover

Productivity and goal setting diary

Recent trip to Cambodia

Beyond the Boardroom specialise in CSR (Corporate Social responsibility) team building events.  Over the past few years we have honed in on providing activities that are not only competitive and fun and bond the team through an experience, but also give back to those in need at the same time.  We have found that having a greater purpose than just fun (which of course is awesome and imperative) provides greater engagement and buy in by all participants.

Many of our events give to local charities and groups, but some also give to overseas not for profits and other great causes.  The reach we are able to have is amazing and really impact people from all over the globe.

Last month, Beyond the Boardroom's founder Luke Talbot-Male headed off to Cambodia with his family for 2 reasons, one to have some RnR and visit the world heritage site Angkor Wat and the famous temples from Tomb Raider, and the second reason was to visit the schools and villages where some of the children's bikes that were built and donated through our team building events ended up.

Luke and his family spent a day out with Vudthy, the Build your future today charity representative and visited 2 schools and villages that were about a 2 hour drive from Siem Reap.  To travel to these remote villages was very special, and to see the children in the schools was certainly a highlight of the trip.

Lukes kids got to join in with the local kids and play on the playground, do the abc's in the classroom and see how other parts of the world learn and go to school.

At the end of the school day, they got to see the local students riding the donated bikes home from school.  Upon speaking to Luke it was such a highlight and emotional experience to see the bikes, that were put together in a fun and meaningful team building experience in Australia, actually being used on the other side of the world.

These are the stories and experiences that make everything we do at Beyond the Boardroom worthwhile.  It is amazing to be involved in a business that not only helps organisations to improve morale and boost productivity, but one that also has the end result of doing great things for the community and for those that are less fortunate.
