Before Mars

Launch your team into the future with Before Mars — an immersive business simulation that challenges strategic thinking, collaboration and execution under pressure. Set in the year 2059, Earth is on the brink of collapse and your team must work together to establish a thriving settlement on Mars before time runs out.

How It Works

Participants are divided into teams of approximately 3–8 people, each seated at separate tables within the same room. The simulation unfolds over four quarters, with each quarter consisting of five decision-making rounds.

Teams must navigate complex challenges that mirror real-world organisational dynamics, including competing priorities, limited information and the tension between individual success and collective outcomes. Decisions made throughout the game directly impact scoring, with teams needing to decide whether to maximise their own points or sacrifice for the greater good.

Performance is benchmarked against a global playing field, allowing teams to compare their results with industry averages or colleagues across different regions. The experience concludes with a facilitator-led debrief, drawing clear parallels between in-game behaviour and workplace dynamics to uncover actionable insights for improved performance.

We require a private room for this event, as well as a projector and screen. See our frequently asked questions below for more information regarding the room requirements.

Before Mars focuses on strategic thinking, collaboration, decision-making under pressure, alignment across teams and long-term planning in uncertain environments.
It’s both. Teams compete on a global leaderboard while also facing decisions that test whether they prioritise individual success or collective outcomes — a key learning element of the simulation.
The session concludes with a comprehensive facilitator-led debrief. This unpacking phase explores team dynamics, decision-making patterns and direct parallels to your organisation’s workplace challenges.
The activity requires a private room with one table per team and a host table at the front of the room. A projector and screen are required to run the simulation and display key information.
Yes. A projector and screen are essential. For groups of more than 30 participants, a handheld microphone and speakers are required to ensure clear communication throughout the session.
