Participants build a virtual JuniorBuddy solar light via an interactive browser-based platform, learn about global energy poverty, and write a heartfelt letter to a child living without reliable electricity. Each virtual build results in a real solar light being assembled and distributed by SolarBuddy to communities most in need.
SolarBuddy Hour of Power Online is a self-facilitated, self-paced virtual experience designed for maximum flexibility and inclusivity. Participants log into a browser-based platform from their computer and work independently, yet collectively, towards a shared purpose.
The experience begins with interactive content that educates participants about global energy poverty and its impact on children’s education, health, the environment, and economic opportunity. Participants then virtually assemble a JuniorBuddy solar light using guided software prompts.
As part of the experience, each participant writes a personal letter of hope to accompany their light, creating a meaningful human connection between donor and recipient. Once all virtual lights are completed, SolarBuddy assembles and distributes real JuniorBuddy lights, along with the letters, to children living in energy poverty through trusted local aid agencies.
The program concludes with participants gaining a deeper understanding of the collective impact they have made together, reinforcing the bigger picture of giving back and global citizenship.
